Why Can Unpacking Feel Overwhelming?
Over the last few days I have been supporting another lovely family to unpack and settle into their new home.Moving home can be a stressful experience.
There are lots of things to organise and many decisions to be made throughout the process. Decluttering before a move can really help the unpacking stage.
I am often asked ‘Why can the unpacking stage feel overwhelming?
Preparing For The Move: You have been working hard preparing for the move and getting everything packed up. Even if you use a packing company there are many decisions to be made.
Box Mountains: When you arrive at your new home you are faced by a mountain of boxes waiting to be unpacked. You know that you can do it but it will take time.
Storage: In your old home you had a place to store everything but in your new home you may not have the same storage solutions. Deliveries of storage may have been delayed or you are waiting to build in additional storage.
Stuff: You have too many things for the new space.
Prioritise: The first stage of unpacking is to decide what will fit into your new space comfortably. As you unpack you may do a little more decluttering and identify any additional storage solutions that you need.
Perfection: It doesn’t need to be perfect at this stage but allow you to function in your new home immediately i.e. find key clothing items, cook a meal, beds made up to sleep etc.
Holding Space: I always recommend identifying a holding space for any items awaiting storage arriving to be unpacked.
If you need support unpacking in your new home Blissfully Organised can help.
Happy settling into your new home.
