FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT - THE ENTRANCE HALLWAY
Today is day two of National Organising Week and I wanted to focus on the first space that you walk into when entering your home. Is this a welcoming space? What does your hallway say about your home?
What’s cluttering up your entrance hall?
a. Shoes
b. Coats
c. Bags
d. Other (please share)
I’d love to hear what’s cluttering your hallway. Please respond to this post with an a, b, c or d.
I’ll be sharing a top tip on hallways too.
AN UNCLUTTERED HALLWAY
Having a well organised hallway helps day to day management of your home and creates a positive first impression.
Effective storage is key for this space. The storage that you select will depend on the number of people living in your home, the space that you have and what you need to store here. The main items that clutter up a hallway are the things that you take off when you enter your home i.e. shoes, coats and bags (sports equipment included). Only keep a small selection of current season coats and shoes in the hallway.
If you have under stairs storage options, you can create screened off storage for these items out of view. If you have a narrow hallway you may need a slim shoe storage cabinet with a few hooks for a small selection of coats. If you have a wider hallway you could add a slim table for incoming mail and small objects you need to take with you i.e. keys. You may also want to add a seat for family members to put on shoes.
Finally avoid dumping things in the hallway for long periods of time, as this space can easily become very busy. The key to a clutter free is to move items to the correct space in your home!
Lets keep organising!
